Our mission is to make sure everyone in Clarke County has access to the food, clothing, and support they need.
FISH of Clarke County has been meeting the needs of our community with compassion and enthusiasm since our founding in 1968. In cooperation with local churches and organizations, as well as private citizens, we provide monthly food and support to any Clarke County resident.
FISH is a volunteer-led non-profit Christian ministry that provides support to neighbors in need who are lacking the basic necessities of life such as food and clothing, and/or needing assistance with financial issues and a fuller integration into our local community life.
Since our inception, FISH has grown into an incorporated 501(c)(3) organization with a Board of Directors and a large volunteer base. In fact, FISH is operated completely by volunteers. Our Main Street location provides space for our food pantry and clothing store, office space for administrative duties and counseling sessions, as well as meeting space for our Board and volunteers.
Food Pantry
At FISH of Clarke County, we provide food for any person or family in need. In partnership with the USDA, as well as donations from organizations and individuals, we are here to help put food on your table. We do not want one person in our county to go without nourishment. We have the resources to get that food into your hands so you can provide meals for yourself or your family.
We want you to experience healthy, nutritious meals. We accept donations of store-bought food, along with fresh vegetables, meat, and eggs from local farms and home gardens.
In cooperation with Red Wagon Ministry, we also offer children's diapers and wipes, as well as adult diapers.
Clothing Store
We welcome anyone in the community to come and shop for clothing at our store. We price the gently used clothing affordably and offer it at no cost to those in need.
Because of the generous donations from our fellow Clarke County residents, we can offer clothing for men, women, and children, as well as shoes, coats, and other clothing items.
We are excited to see bags of clothing going out the door with happy, thankful customers!
Partnership with Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity
We are excited to announce an exciting collaboration between FISH and Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity! This partnership assists members of our Clarke County community who desire to age in place. We are working together to make repairs, build wheelchair ramps, and perform general upgrades for making homes safe for our older population.
Additional Services
We offer financial counseling and help for such needs as household utility and heating bills. We also act in a referral role to connect those in need with other agencies.
Over the years, we have provided assistance to families who have lost homes in a fire. We have organized an after-school program. We partner with other organizations in the community to provide weekend backpack food to school-aged children. We also provide complete meals every year for any Clarke County family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as offer Christmas gifts.
We are constantly evaluating the needs of our community to see how else we may serve you.
